Black Spotted Turtles no match for fast and furious illegal trade

Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, 28th May 2018—Asia’s illegal trade in the Black Spotted Turtle is spiralling out of control. A new TRAFFIC study shows over 10,000 individuals have been seized in two years, eclipsing numbers recorded in a previous six-year study.

The study, released following World Turtle Day 2018, was generously funded by the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) 

¹ A previous TRAFFIC study logged 1,960 individuals seized in 22 cases between January 2008 and March 2014. This has since been updated with previously unrecorded seizures, bringing the new total up to 2,171 turtles seized in 26 seizure cases
