Identifying the
pectoral fin

  • Long and slender fin, curving slightly on the leading edge towards a rounded apex.
  • The dorsal surface is grey to greyish brown.
  • The ventral surface is almost the same color as the dorsal surface with a visible light coloration at the base that extends into the middle of the fin.
  • Margins of the leading and trailing edge are darker.

STATUS AND RANGE

The Bigeye Thresher Alopias superciliosus is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ and is listed in Appendix II of CITES.
