Wayne Lotter, conservation champion, killed in Dar es Salaam

It is with immense sadness that TRAFFIC has learned of the killing in Dar es Salaam of Wayne Lotter, the founding co-Director of PAMS Foundation Tanzania. TRAFFIC staff in Africa and beyond came to know Wayne over several years, routinely engaging with him on common issues.

Wayne was a tremendously generous individual who, despite the dangers to himself, never deterred from protecting Tanzania’s wildlife and supporting local communities. He was a champion and strong advocate for the invaluable role played by local communities in the fight against wildlife crime, regularly crediting them as key players in conservation success stories.

Wayne showed a passion and commitment that is rarely seen today in the conservation field. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, as well as by the conservation sector at large.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Wayne’s wife and two daughters, to Krissie and the PAMS Foundation team, and to the NTSCIU
