SECOND EDITION OF THE WILDLIFE TRADE NEWSLETTER FOR CENTRAL ASIA
TRAFFIC is pleased to present the second edition of the wildlife trade newsletter for Central Asia. This newsletter is targeted for relevant governmental authorities, law enforcement agencies and non-governmental organisations in Central Asia and everyone else interested in wildlife trade issues in the Central Asian region.
The newsletter contains information about recent incidences of illegal hunting/offtake and trade in wild animals and plants in Central Asia, updates and news related to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), new resources and tools to support law enforcers, and information on upcoming events and new publications. The aim of this newsletter is to inform relevant stakeholders in the Central Asian region and raise the awareness about wildlife trade issues and species conservation in the region. It will be published twice a year electronically in English and Russian.
The second edition of the newsletter covers the period from May to October 2024. The news was collected from open source media and were adapted/translated into English. The newsletter can be found electronically both in English and Russian.
This newsletter is produced as part of a project funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. This four-year project, titled “Strengthening Capacity & Fostering the Will to Combat Wildlife Crime in Central Asia,” is spearheaded by Fauna & Flora in collaboration with TRAFFIC, the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK), the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ecological Resource Centre “EKOMAKTAB.” The project is dedicated to enhancing law enforcement capacities to address wildlife trafficking across major hotspots and trade routes in Central Asia, specifically targeting countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
