Man arrested for alleged involvement in tortoise smuggling

A man accused of arranging for a wildlife smuggler in Singapore to obtain 30 Indian Star and 5 Burmese Star Tortoises - both protected species - has been arrested in Chico, USA, reports KHSL-TV

A North State man faces federal charges for illegal tortoise trading. 39-year-old Garrett Smith of Chico was arraigned in federal court in Sacramento Wednesday.

The indictment says Smith arranged with a wildlife smuggler in Singapore to obtain 30 Indian Star tortoises and five Burmese Star tortoises. Both species are protected.
