Smuggled tiger parts seized in Qingdao, China
On 21 September, Customs officials from Qingdao, China, discovered a Tiger pelt in the unaccompanied luggage of an Indonesian man. When picking up the baggage, he was arrested and confessed to smuggling tiger parts, reports Xinhuanet
He claimed that in July he had smuggled tiger parts via Gongbei port, and in August via Dalian port. Officials visited his temporary residence in Yantai and confiscated 2 Bengal Tiger pelts, some Tiger bones, 1 Tiger gallbladder and other Tiger products, worth an estimated RMB 1,000,000 (USD135,000). A Chinese man was arrested at the residence.
If convicted, the men face life imprisonment or even the death penalty.
