Two given suspended death sentences for smuggling pangolins

Two suspects have given suspended death sentences and fined a total of RMB 3 million (USD400,000) and another three people handed out jail sentences of between 10 years and life after they were found guilty of smuggling pangolins totalling 68,000 kg of meat, 900 kg of scales, 2,849 animals plus 2,600 geckos from Indonesia to Xiamen, China, over a 9 month period between September 2005 and May 2006. The contraband was destined for Guangzhou and Shantou in Guangdong province.
