Tortoise smuggler faces jail sentence and heavy fine

A man who pleaded guilty to smuggling dozens of protected tortoises into the US from Southeast Asia faces 10 years in jail and a USD500,000 fine, reports KNBC

LOS ANGELES -- A 31-year-old Diamond Bar man pleaded guilty Tuesday to smuggling dozens of protected and endangered tortoises from Southeast Asia into the United States.

Wai Ho "Bobby" Gin, who faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a $500,000 fine, is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 11 by U.S. District Judge Edward Rafeedie.
