Overview
TRAFFIC International leads and co-ordinates the work of the TRAFFIC network in delivering its global conservation programme. TRAFFIC International is based in Cambridge, UK, where it is registered as a limited company and as a charity. The Chief Executive of the TRAFFIC International office is also the Executive Director of the TRAFFIC network worldwide.
Roles
Strategic direction and leadership: To support effective governance of the TRAFFIC network as a joint programme of WWF and IUCN, to manage the UK charity and ensure focus on a long-term conservation vision.
Network operations management: To ensure effective management and support of the operational and administrative infrastructure of the TRAFFIC network.
Programme development: To ensure strategic development of TRAFFIC’s conservation programme, ensure coherence with wider WWF and IUCN programmes, to lead funding development activities and ensure effective monitoring and evaluation.
Programme delivery: To oversee and support the implementation of TRAFFIC’s programme, promoting focus, effectiveness and efficiency in the network’s activities and successful collaboration with wider WWF and IUCN programmes.
Communications: To implement and support communications activities aimed to help deliver TRAFFIC’s programme and promote its profile.
Other activities: To implement specific project activities within TRAFFIC’s programme. TRAFFIC International plays an important role in leading and advising technical preparations and advocacy for major events and campaigns. These include input into CITES and other international institutions, such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and input into network initiatives on major policy issues, such as the ASEAN wildlife trade initiative the EU wildlife trade initiative, timber and fisheries. TRAFFIC International is also the hub for the network’s collection and dissemination of intelligence on illegal wildlife trade, an activity area where we work closely with government law enforcement agencies worldwide.
